Ever since I saw this property was coming soon on the Auberge website, I was eagerly anticipating a stay. The renderings looked pretty amazing, and I was curious how those drawings would come to fruition. Santa Fe has done nothing but impress me in past visits, so I was eager to return and explore this property. The lodge is located about 4 miles from the main plaza in Santa Fe. They have a very sizable property with hiking trails, fly fishing, pools, fitness center, and the list goes on. As we drove into the resort, a large group greeted us out front and we were escorted to the main building for check in. I was immediately offered a water with chlorophyll and sage. A welcome drink of any variety leaves me thinking that I will be well taken care of on my stay.
After check in, I was escorted via golf cart up to my accommodations in Tesuque 9. Due to the size, it was nice to be chauffeured to my room. The room in Tesuque 9 was near the top of the property with extensive views. It was hard to believe that I was a mere 4 miles from the main square in Santa Fe. The room had a large outdoor seating area with a fire pit. Inside, it was equally as large with plenty of space for luggage and spreading out. There was a seating area in front of the fireplace with a well appointed bar cart. The bar cart included some gifted snacks of popcorn, squash, and dried black beans. They may not sound terribly exciting, but they tasted amazing! I really loved the room and the decor. It wasn’t just another boring hotel room, which is something that I am always in pursuit of when trying to decide where to stay.
There are several options for your room including the guestrooms, suites, casitas, or the 12-room Bunkhouse. If you have a large group, this Bunkhouse looked pretty spectacular. It has a two story stone fireplace with vaulted ceilings. There are some additional amenities and perks to staying here such as complimentary breakfast delivered daily upon request and an afternoon selection of snacks. The casitas feature a kitchen, if you are looking to enjoy an evening in and cook dinner. For a quick weekend getaway, our guestroom with a king bed was more than adequate and afforded everything you could possibly need.
There are a number of activities on the property. They have a pool, gym, art gallery, restaurant, fly fishing, hiking trails, and more. I started at their restaurant with a cocktail and appetizer. The inside of the restaurant showcased more of the well thought out decor. There was definitely an attention to detail with all the accents. When the weather is nice, you can sit outside on their large patio, or you can sit inside and take in the southwestern decor. They have some great cocktails, and their empanadas were the perfect accompaniment. The next day, I enjoyed lunch in the main dining room. Santa Fe has an abundance of fantastic restaurants, but SkyFire at Bishop’s Lodge should certainly be included.
The hiking trails on the property were a little difficult to locate, so I recommend asking prior to starting out on your journey. I eventually made my way to one of the shorter trails, which afforded extensive views even after a short climb. I didn’t bring hiking boots on the trip, and tennis shoes were perfectly adequate for the trail that I completed. For more exercise, you can stop in their gym. It is rather small, but I had the place to myself both times I visited.
After eagerly anticipating a stay at Bishop’s Lodge, I was thrilled to finally make the trip. This property affords a secluded feel but is still close to many of the main attractions in Santa Fe. Their staff goes the extra mile to take care of guests. If you don’t want to leave the property, Bishop’s Lodge can easily keep your attention with everything you could need or want. I’m ready to try my next Auberge property!
