You better watch out when you visit Warren Vermont. It is charming. In a matter of a long weekend, I was hooked. I call this post a focal point because the Pitcher Inn really seemed to be just that for the town of Warren. Gems like this can be hard to find, but the Relais and Chateaux website never seems to disappoint. After visiting their properties all over the world, they have never let me down. I have gotten to the point that I feel confident booking a weekend getaway around one of their properties. For my visit to Warren, I did just that. If you are looking for unique, this is a place where you will find just that. I would go so far as to say that this is the most unique hotel room that I have ever stayed in. My choice for the weekend was the room Ski. Photos of hotel rooms online usually showcase a room in all its glory. For the first time ever, I feel as if this room was even more spectacular in person than its representation online. It was larger than I envisioned with so many quirks. The décor was unparalleled. You will feel like you are stepping foot into a whole other world. Each room has its own theme, and the spectrum varies significantly. If forced to pick one of my favorite things, it would have to be the shower/tub being enclosed together and having its own steam function. I have never stayed in a hotel room where I had my own personal steam room. Beyond that, the entry way is like a fairy tale. You open the door up not only to a tree, but also, a mural of skiers on a blue and white background painted on the walls. There is an area to relax on a comfy leather couch in front of the fireplace. Elevated behind this is the bed with a fake sled making up the headboard. This is all next to another tree running through the room. The wood vaulted ceiling was gorgeous. It felt like a cozy cabin in the middle of nowhere. If you want to escape the world, you could use the full kitchen to cook your meals without even leaving the room. You have your own picnic table in the room to enjoy your food. There is also an abundance of books and games to sift through in the room and common areas.
One thing that I loved was a number of the products were local. They provided a lovely gift basket on check in with maple syrup and granola bars. Their natural bath products were Whisper Hill, a Vermont company. At night, I loved to have the fireplace lit for a night cap or a cup of tea. The kitchen showcased many varieties of tea from the Vermont Artisan Tea company. The tea was so good that I made a trip to their storefront to buy some of my favorites. I particularly enjoyed the Hibiscus Blossom and the Lemongrass Ginger. All of their tea is organic and packaged in biodegradable bags. After dinner, you can also sit in one of the rooms throughout the house to relax and enjoy a game or read a book. There are a lot of really eclectic decorations and items with historic significance such as an American flag from 1896 with 45 stars present during the Spanish American war.
For food, breakfast is included each day of your stay. The menu did have variety versus staying the same every day. Breakfast is only served to hotel guests, so it was a great opportunity to enjoy a quiet, relaxing morning. Their chef was quite talented and his skill was put on display through all of the dinner options. There was not a single appetizer or main short of delicious. Typically, I am not a dessert person, but their selection of homemade gelatos was so light and a great end to the meal. They offer dessert wines and ports. For dinner, the restaurant is open to the public, so the crowd can be a little larger in the evenings. Downstairs is a more casual restaurant called Tracks. They have a small bar and laid back rustic surroundings. There is a room with a pool table and shuffle board. Also downstairs is the wine room. If it isn’t opened, ask the bartender to unlock and have a look inside. The wine list is well appointed. I thought their wines by the glass were unique. They had a glass of Sotar sparkling rose, which is really tasty. I have visited their winery outside of Portland, but this is the first time that I have seen one of their bottles on a menu. Tracks is great for a pre dinner drink, but I recommend sitting upstairs in their main dining room for dinner.
For amenities, you have the option to use the Sugarbush Health and Racquet club, which is a well outfitted facility a short drive away. The front desk will call to make you a reservation in advance. If you are interested in spa services, the hotel can arrange for someone to come in and provide a massage.
